Aylinee Carter Fuentes. Mary Martinez. One of the most studied elements of early communication development relates to joint attention behaviors , which all descriptive studies structure in three stages occurring over the first year of life, eventually leading to the emergence of language. These behaviors have generally been studied using a visual modality, and certain evolutionary aspects of joint attention have been linked to subsequent language development.
The resiliency processes that develop in cases of sensorial disability, and how these processes make use of alternative pathways, are analyzed with an eye toward the therapeutic implications these phenomena could have for communication and language development programs.
