Windows 8 hangs on restart after install

This comment states:. My personal notebook just did an almost forced reboot with Win 10 21H2 all December patches are on it via Windows Update Service, the most I could have done was postpone it until tonight. The following driver update came in:. Details here. Fits so far, mine is from the HP X series and thus has the rotation sensor, which has always worked so far.

And in another comment he describes a second case of such a forced reboot under Windows How nice, thank you MS, thank you HP! Today it was different, standing private next to company device, suddenly the Windows update message popped up, and I could not react, because in Telko listening and at the same time still on a group policy and chatting with a third colleague, and meanwhile reboots suddenly my private notebook, and there were still two things open.

Why does this not work all at once. Question: anyone else who has been force-fed in this regard? Shtd: Timed out waiting for shutdown processing to complete - no progress detected in last milliseconds.

This issue occurs because the Trusted Installer service did not finish the installation process within the default time-out period of 15 minutes. To work around this issue, set the time-out value to a larger value in the registry, and then reapply the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:. Right-click the TrustedInstaller key, and then click Permissions. This change sets the time-out value to three hours.

Due to some problem on not fixing this 'SrtTrail. See if you can call up task manager and see if you can see what's still running. If that doesn't work, try a Clean boot and see if the problem still exists. I will do this, once I reinstall my Windows 8 operating system again like 4 time so far and I think I noticed that by installing Norton it may of caused the hang on restart.

But I will do the Windows 7 Clean boot to see. Sorry for the late reply. The problem still persists. Like another poster in this thread I think the problem is a Norton product. I have the latest version of Norton Internet Security installed. Immediately after uninstalling Norton products the restart seems to work fine. But once I keep Norton Internet Security running for a while the problem returns. Due to this issue is caused by the Norton product, if this software version is compatible with Windows 8, it is also recommended to submit a feedback to Norton.

I don't think it is Norton that is causing this problem. I made a clean install of Win 8 Pro, and it worked fine untill I ran Windows update. Nothing else but Windows installed but it still didn't boot.

What happens i s that the PC restarts, I can se the rortating dots for a minute or so then it hangs. The only thing ti di is to do a cols boot, but then the machine goes into repair and restore. For the moment I do not dare to install anything och the PC until I can do an error free restart NB: Not shut down and start, since that works ok, but then nothing is updated. Hi Lars Ho,. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to post a new thread for your issue.

Are you using Norton Internet Security ? There's some indication see other posts , that uninstalling and replacing it with version helps.

I tried writing a 0 to every bit on my hard drive, but that also doesn't help. I tried to use the SeaTools since it's a SeaGate, but that didn't help. I have also tried just installing windows 8, logging in to my machine, and just sitting in metro without doing anything else, and it will still freeze, and this is of course coming from a fresh installation.

I have tried different hard drives, but they still give me the same problem. I have tried different ram, and video cards, but same problem. I ran a disk check, and the troubleshooter that comes with Windows 8, but that doesn't help.

I get freezing without installing anything after a reinstallation. What bothers me the most, is that it worked the very first time I installed Windows 8. I have also used the consumer preview, the developer preview, and all the other versions of Windows 8. I forgot to mention I'm running Windows 8 64bit Professional, and my Windows 7 is also 64 bit Professional.

My Windows 7 key is no longer valid because I used it on my laptop, so I can only test things on it for 30 days.
